The 8/1 Shimmering Gold Auction - Fine Jewelry & More
Lot 231364:
Description
“River of Plenty” from Salvador Dali’s Mao Tse-Tung Poems collection. This series illustrates the poetry of the Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong, often with a satirical edge. The present example, for instance, depicts a goblet which pours blood into a boiling sea. The foam at the tips of the waves floats towards the sky in the shape of crowns. A skeletal figure, black and red as if charred, languishes in the bottom right corner. “Plenty”, in this case, entails an overflow of chaos, domination, and suffering. 85/95. Features the artist’s signature. Includes two certificates of authenticity, one from the original owners and one from the company itself. The piece is contained in a simple black frame with subtle gold surfacing.
Size: 15 x 11″ print, 22.25 x 18.25 x 1″ frame
