Description

Lot of one-of-a-kind IBM material. The major pieces include an ULTRA RARE virgin unused IBM DOS 1.0 floppy disk, the DOS manual owned by the author himself, with a contemporaneous memo addressed to the author (presumably by his secretary) proving its authenticity (Transcription: Martin, I thought you’d like to have a copy of your book. So far, the books have been well received and no major errors (and not even many little errors) have been found!!! Good for the time [being?]. Lani Jacobs). Other paraphernalia include a Civil Defense fallout shelter handbook, a Civil Defense guide to shelter construction, an IBM memo detailing a company assistance program in fallout preparation, an IBM loan form for these preparations, a photograph of Martin Ryan and his colleagues circa 1962-63 during development on the IBM 1050 computer terminal (Martin’s position is indicated by an arrow written in blue pen), a photocopy of IBM’s first storefront, Martin Ryan’s certificate for the completion of IBM’s Systems Research Institute course in Digital Computing and Data Processing Systems, dated 1966 and notably signed by Thomas Vincent Learson (then-president of IBM and administrator who created systems later used by NASA for the moon landings) and Thomas A. Watson Jr. (son of IBM’s founder who shifted its focus toward electronic computers), and a printed time-line of the development of IBM’s operating systems. This is a valuable and unique collection for those invested in the history of computing.
Condition: The disk is unused (please be careful and do not set this item near magnets). All other items show wear commensurate with their age. See pictures for more detail. Floppy Disk
