The Great Summer Discovery Auction
Lot 229373:
Description
Mauser 71/84 Spandau Gewehr bolt action rifle, an early iteration on the Mauser company’s early rifles. This model would later be imported en masse through the Howth harbor (granting it the nickname "Howth Mauser" and used in the Irish Easter Rising). Serial no. 1544.
Fair quality, there are noticeable but minor scratches toward the butt and the bluing has faded somewhat. The piece appears to be functional, as the bolt pulls back with good spring tension and the trigger depresses. The lack of bluing on much of the bolt is intentional. That being said, this company is not a gun shop and its employees are not gunsmiths. A more comprehensive assessment of the piece’s quality and functionality is up to the buyer to carry out. 10 lbs.
