Description
Assorted decorative African glass/ stone trade beads. African trade beads were a means of currency for people in Africa for thousands of years. During the 15th-17th centuries, Europe brought Millefiori style glass beads to trade with in Africa up into the transatlantic slave trade. Africans formed these beads as well, like the Krobo and Bodom style beads made around Ghana which became a means of decoration in more modern times, used in rituals, dowries and buried with the dead. Of all the different eras of the African trade beads, this lot primarily contains Krobo and Millefiori style trade beads. It is likely, that these beads have been around for 300 years or more and stand as a rich and deep representation of the history of Africa.
