Description

Japanese bronze temple urn which is either from or styled after Meiji Restoration-era art. These funerary urns flanked altars in Shinto Buddhist temples, indicating the deceased’s importance. This piece features a peacock and another bird on one side, three geese on the reverse, and handles in the shape of dragons straddling the side of the piece. The dragons are not tightly secured to the urn and the piece’s bottom is partially disconnected. 24 lbs.
