Description
Ceremonial shamshir from the Iranian Pahlavi dynasty. The Pahlavi’s, a 20th century Iranian dynasty, took pains to project a uniquely Persian identity. The sword’s iconography reflects this: the hilt features a horse head, perhaps a reference to the famed cavalries of ancient Persian empires, and the shamshir itself, a thinner offshoot of the scimitar, was the traditional sword of Persian militaries. There is also a maker’s mark in Persian stamped on the base of the scabbard.
Size: 22 X 4.75″
Condition: The sword is rusted and the scabbard is heavily deteriorated. See pictures for more detail.
