Lot 220421:
Description
Bronze replica of Frederic Remington’s “The Rattlesnake”, which depicts a cowboy and his horse startled by a nearby rattlesnake. While the scene could be interpreted comically, it could also signify a cowboy’s resilience amid unexpected and chaotic situations. The statue is mounted on a rectangular black marble base.
Frederic Remington (1861 – 1909) was an American sculptor and painter who depicted scenes from the American West. He was known for his kinetic rendering of human and animal action and became particularly influential for his realistic representations of galloping and bucking horses. One such piece, the present item, which he prototyped for years to perfect the horse’s posture and musculature, is said to have been his favorite. 45.1 lbs.
Size: 21 X 18 X 9.5″
Condition: The marble base is chipped on the corners, see pictures for more detail.
