J. B. Owens pottery Utopian pillow porcelain vase. This vase is hand-painted. J. B. Owens was a significant figure in American art pottery, known for founding the J. B. Owens Pottery Company in 1885. The company, initially based in Roseville and later moved to Zanesville, Ohio, produced a wide range of art pottery lines, including the popular Utopian line known for its botanical decorations. Owens’ pottery was known for its quality and was often compared to that of other prominent Ohio potteries like Rookwood, Roseville, and Weller.
