1787 4 Cinq P.R. Fugio 1¢ ‘States United’ NGC VF Details (20-35) environmental damage. This is the first official coin of the United States of America under The Articles of Confederation, pre-dating the Constitution. The coin features Franklinisms such as “Fugio”, latin for “I fly” and “Mind Your Business” which is to mean mind your affairs and tend to business. These terms suggest the influence or design of Benjamin Franklin in the mintage of these coins.
