Colt New Service revolver chambered in .38 WCF (.38-40), manufactured in 1899, the very year Colt began offering this model in this caliber. This revolver features a rare 7.5-inch barrel, making it an excellent display piece or a standout addition to any early Colt collection.
The revolver retains approximately 90% of its original blued finish, with even wear typical of a well-preserved, 120+ year-old firearm. The rollmarks are sharp, the bore is bright with strong rifling, and the action is tight and crisp—functioning as it should in both single and double action.
The Colt New Service was introduced in 1898 and was Colt’s largest frame revolver of the time, eventually adopted by the U.S. military and law enforcement agencies throughout the early 20th century. Known for its robust design and smooth operation, the New Service was chambered in a variety of calibers—this example in .38 WCF was a popular choice for those already owning Winchester lever rifles in the same caliber, offering a practical companion piece.
