1ST PRESIDENT WASHINGTON EMMA CLEAR DOLL PAIR
1st President George Washington (1732-1799) and First Lady Mrs. Martha Dandridge extremely rare Emma Clear and Lewis Sorensen (1910 – 1985) Presidential Doll CollectionPresident and First Lady pairing. Set comes with name tags and informational papers. Emma Clear’s porcelain work is added with Mr. Sorensen’s doll collection. In the 1940’s Emma wanted to make a set of original designdolls depicting George and Martha Washington. To that end she hired sculptor Martha Oathout Ayers to design the pair for her. Mrs. Ayres was a well-respected artist best known for her bronzes of children and waslisted in Who’s Who in America in 1927. Her portraits of the Washington’s show the couple in later life and are very well detailed. The dolls are slightly larger than the Lewis Sorensen’s dolls, measuring at about 20 5/8"in height.
