11609b EMMA CLEAR GEORGE & MARTHA WASHINGTON DOLLS Emma Clear (1879-1952, American) George Washington and Martha Washington porcelain dolls in excellent condition. In the 1940’s Emma wanted to make a set of original designdolls depicting George and Martha Washington. To that end she hired sculptor Martha Oathout Ayers to design the pair for her. Mrs. Ayres was a well-respected artist best known for her bronzes of children and waslisted in Who’s Who in America in 1927. Her portraits of the Washington’s show the couple in later life and are very well detailed. Condition: Very fine, age considered.
