TORCH CUT BRUTALIST ART "COMING INTO REALITY" (3)
Description
“Coming into Reality”, a Brutalist torch-cut three-metal-piece set by Christine Noelle Brown, part of her 1995 “Dream Series”. The three pieces are part of a progression. The first (“The Curiosity”) is a simple metal slab. The second (“The Slimps” [sic]) features two holes punched through the metal with purple and pink painted canvas behind it. A handprint is visible behind each hole. The final piece (“The Reality”) features a large hole in the metal, rendering the canvas completely visible. The same handprints are visible as well. The piece presumably represents the breakdown of artificial and simplistic illusions to reveal the incomprehensible truth. 27.5lbs total.
