Description
Lot of two antique Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) prints from the 1925 Arthur Machen translation of the Memoirs of Jacques Casanova. Both prints depict one of the notorious libertine’s affairs. One is signed and the other is numbered.
The Memoir of Casanova is an unfinished autobiography by Giacomo Casanova (1725 – 1798)which records his adventures in upper-class French circles. It has attracted interest because of its firsthand personal accounts of figures like Mozart and Goethe and controversy because of Casanova’s libidinous habits.
Rockwell Kent (1882 – 1971) was a prominent artist and public intellectual recognized for his paintings of the New England wilderness and his prints for Moby Dick. Later in life, he was known for his involvement in Socialist politics for which he became a target of the Red Scare.
